Tampa Bay Innovation Center hosts January Tech Talk

Tampa Bay Innovation Center, an innovation and entrepreneurship center for technology businesses, will hold its first TECH Talk program of 2015, which is also the quarterly “Diary of an Entrepreneur” program, on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 8:30 a.m. at Microsoft Headquarter offices, 5426 Bay Center Dr., Suite 700, Tampa.

During the program, “Not as Easy as it Looks:  A Technology Growth Story,” Kevin Hourigan, founder, president and CEO of Bayshore Solutions, will describe the growth strategies that have led this award-winning company to serve more than 1,900 companies in 54 countries through offices in Tampa, Denver and South Florida.  A successful entrepreneur, he has led his web design and development firm through the depths of the dot-com meltdown to the industry leader it is today.

Tampa Bay Innovation Center hosts December TECH Talk

Tampa Bay Innovation Center, an innovation and entrepreneurship center for technology businesses, will hold its December TECH Talk program on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 8:30 a.m. at Microsoft Headquarter offices, 5426 Bay Center Dr., Suite 700, Tampa.

The December program, “Will the economy help or hinder your growth in 2015 – and what you can do about it,” will feature panelists Gwynn Davey, Bay Cities Bank executive vice president; Lynn Johler, Bay Cities Bank executive vice president and manager of Small Business Administration (SBA) lending; and Steven Grove, tax group managing director of CBIZ MHM Tampa Bay. Davey, Johler and Grove will discuss what is going on in the local and national economies and what may be on the horizon in 2015 that will have an impact on startup and early stage company growth.  

Tampa Bay Innovation Center Hosts November TECH Talk and Diary of an Entrepreneur Program

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week Nov. 17-23, Tampa Bay Innovation Center, an innovation and entrepreneurship center for technology businesses, will hold its November TECH Talk program, the quarterly “Diary of an Entrepreneur,” on Tuesday, November 18, at 8:30 a.m. at Microsoft Headquarter offices, 5426 Bay Center Dr., Suite 700, Tampa.

The November program, “Tales from the Entrepreneurial Trenches,” will feature early stage business founders Pat Bhava, CEO and founder of PikMyKid; Daniela Marginean, founder and CEO of eMatters, Inc.; and Jeff Pothul, chief operating officer of Dock-n-Lock LLC. Panelists will discuss their experiences – positive and negative – in starting and seeking funding for their companies. The panel will be moderated by Alexis Muellner, editor in chief of Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Tampa Bay Innovation Center Hosts TEC Garage Grand Opening

New location in downtown St. Pete will house Innovation Center operations and startup companies

Tampa Bay Innovation Center, an innovation and entrepreneurship center, is holding the grand opening of its new TEC Garage location on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. Occupying 6,000 square feet, TEC Garage is located on the first floor of the St. Petersburg College building, 244 2nd Ave. N. in downtown St. Petersburg.  

Alakai Defense Systems Named Area’s Sixth Fastest Growing Company

Tampa Bay Innovation Center graduate placed sixth among Top 50 growing companies

 Alakai Defense Systems, Inc., a defense and security technology company specializing in laser and electro-optical sensing of explosives, homemade explosives, IEDs and chemicals of defense and security significance, was recently named sixth in the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Fast 50, recognizing the area’s 50 fastest growing, privately-held companies.

 “As a small technology company, we realize that being recognized for our growth is quite an honor,” said Ed Dottery, president of Alakai Defense Systems. “Many of us have served in the military, and all of us are passionate about creating innovative technologies to protect our soldiers.  Our growth is a direct response of that determination and drive at all levels of the company.”
